You could be unsure about how to handle this new relationship and what to talk about if you've never had an accountability partner and are unfamiliar with the concept. Do not be concerned; here is how to begin your accountability relationship.
Determine When & How You'll MeetIt would be best if you met with your accountability partner frequently. If you and your partner are virtual accountability partners, you can meet in person at a nearby coffee shop or over Google Hangouts or Skype. You must have a regular meeting location, whether or not you utilize technology to connect.
What works for you should determine how frequently you meet. Starting a meeting two to four times a month can be beneficial. This gives you time to communicate any success or setbacks you experience.
Keep in mind, however, that you're free to alter the place or time of your meeting if your circumstances or those of your accountability partner warrant it. For example, let's say you and another solopreneur decide to work together over the summer as accountability partners. In that case, you might need to adjust your meetings during the school year to spend more time with your kids.
This need to modify schedules frequently occurs in partnerships. So, look at your schedules regularly to see if another time might be better for you and your accountability partner.
You should discuss your ideals and aspirations with your partner during your first session. You'll likely have a mix of short-term and long-term objectives for your business or your life.
Your accountability partner can help you break down your long-term goals into simple tasks that you can do. For instance, your short-term action items might be to "outline my Kindle book" or "call a designer to build my book cover" if your long-term objective is to publish a Kindle book on your subject.
You should discuss the actions you did after your last meeting in follow-up meetings.
Talk about more than simply the tough subjects. When one of you reaches a milestone or completes a task, celebrate. Celebrating successes doesn't have to be complicated; you may send your virtual accountability partner a modest Starbucks card or go out for dessert. Sharing your achievement increases the likelihood of accomplishing even greater objectives.
Practice patience with yourself and your new accountability partner as you figure out how to manage this new collaboration. Do not be averse to speaking up and requesting what you require if something isn't working for you.
